It often occurs when someone has an emotional argument to make with little or no supporting logical argument.<br /><br />The intuitive mind can often have a “mind of its own” or “intuitive intelligence” which operates independently of the logical mind, .labelling is a product of an emotional mind, an explosion of feeling in the form of barbed words.<br /><br />Most people who indulge in labelling know that the label or name they choose to describe another individual is not factually accurate. The label is often regarded as hyperbole or as a metaphor. Something which more accurately describes how the speaker feels about the other person than what the speaker actually thinks about the other person.<br />The Difference between Judgment and Name Calling<br /><br />In the book "The Language of Emotions", author Karla McLaren illustrates the difference between judgment and name calling using the example of a household rug:<br /><br />"Let’s imagine a rug that isn't ideal for the room we’re in. We can judge the rug and see that its pile is too high or the color is wrong. Perhaps we feel sad that money was wasted, but we freely process information about it and add that information to our skill set. That’s judgment. It’s not name-calling; it’s a considered, decisive process. We have a problem with the rug, we have feelings about it, and we’re definitely judging it, but we’re not doing damage to our minds, our emotions, or our psyches. Therefore, we move forward with more knowledge about rugs and rug care and about purchases in general. <br /><br />Now let’s get into name-calling about the same rug: “Why would anyone buy this rug? What kind of moron puts a pale, fluffy rug in a public area? Look at the way those colors clash; it looks like someone ate a box of crayons and then threw up on the floor!” With name-calling, we get personally affronted and it’s about our own emotions.<br /><br />In both of these examples, we don’t like the rug. But name-calling doesn’t make us smarter, stronger, or more aware—it just pits us in futile opposition to a floor covering. Healthy judgment helps us choose what works in our lives."<br /><br />"The Language of Emotions" by Karla McLaren<br />How it Looks<br /><br />“You little -----”<br />“You are worthless”<br />“My sister is totally useless”<br />How it Feels<br /><br />It’s normal to feel hurt and defensive when a person starts labeling you or calling you names. When you are on the receiving end you lose in two ways.<br /><br />The first way is in loss of self-esteem. You receive the message that someone important to you does not like you or thinks less of you than you actually are or deserve. You may begin to wonder “what is wrong with me that this person does not like me?”<br /><br />The second way you lose is in discovering that after the insult, there is no path of resolution being offered to you. When a person is name-calling, they have abandoned intelligent conversation in favor of emotional outburst. In an indirect way they are informing you that they are not immediately interested in problem solving, compromise, personal improvement, meaningful debate or mutually beneficial conversation.<br />How to Cope<br /><br />When a person resorts to name-calling, they have in that moment abandoned logic in favor of an exaggerated expression of their feelings. There is little to be gained by confronting them with any form of reasoned argument about what the facts are or if the name is warranted.<br />There are generally two constructive options open to the victim. The first is to stay and validate their feelings, but not their statements. The second is to leave and wait for a time when they are ready to engage on a more logical or constructive discussion. There are also a number of destructive options - including retaliation, and enabling.<br /><br />Feelings validation can sometimes produce constructive effects in people who are going through an emotional storm. Sometimes once their feelings have been understood and validated a person will quiet down and be willing to discuss the facts more rationally. However, the problem with staying and validating their feelings is you may have to absorb a prolonged, ego-crushing series of insults for some time without retaliating. Most people have a limit of how much patience they have. It is hard to control a conversation with someone in the midst of an emotional firestorm without getting personally hurt yourself.<br /><br />In general it is easier for therapists and other people not directly involved in a Personality Disordered person’s life to provide this kind of validation, since they are usually not the ones being insulted.<br /><br />Since the resulting conflict rarely addresses the root problem - the way the Personality Disordered person suddenly feels so negative - these behaviors generally do not make them feel better. Furthermore, if the Non reacts defensively or destructively to name-calling, they may inadvertently turn a blaming episode into a self-fulfilling prophecy.<br /><br />The real problem is that a Disordered individual feels bad. They want to feel better. A discussion or argument about your list of faults - or anybody else’s is not going to solve it.<br /><br />The other constructive option available when someone calls you a name is to politely decline to accept the label and exit the conversation, which also helps avoid a circular argument and, by refusing to accept the label, also asserts a firm boundary.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">For all of the progress of our modern societies, we still are far behind most aboriginal cultures in terms of respect for individual rights and dignity in some kind of balance with the good of the whole. Nowhere is this more evident in terms of our relationship to our children. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">
<br />Modern civilizations - both Eastern and Western - are no more than a generation or two removed from the belief that children were property. This, of course, goes hand in hand with the belief that women were property. The idea that children have rights, individuality, and dignity is relatively new in modern society. The predominant and underlying belief, as it has been manifested in the treatment of children, has been that children are extensions of, and tools to be used by, their parents. <br /><br />A very telling insight into the basic beliefs underlying Western attitudes towards children is shared by child pioneer Alice Miller in her book The Drama of The Gifted Child. She shares how the 19th Century German Philosophers who laid the groundwork for modern psychology, emphasized the importance of stamping out a child's "exuberance." In other words, a child's spirit must be crushed in order to control them. <br /><br />Children are to be seen and not heard. Spare the rod and spoil the child. <br /><br />It is only in very recent history, that our society has even recognized child abuse as a crime instead of an inherent right of the parent. The concept of healthy parenting as a skill to be learned is very new in society. <br /><br />Any society that does not respect and honor individual human dignity, is going to be a society that does not meet the essential needs of it's members. Patriarchal societies, that demean and degrade women and children, are dysfunctional in their essence. <br /><br />We form our core relationship with our self and with life - and of course with other people - in early childhood in reaction to the messages we get from the way we are treated and the role modeling of the other people in our lives. We then have no training or initiation ceremonies, no culturally approved grieving process, to help us let go of the old programming and learn a different relationship with our self and life. So, we build upon the foundation laid in early childhood. <br /><br />As adults, we react to the programming of our childhood. To contend that our childhood emotional wounds have not affected our adult lives is ridiculous. To think that our early programming has not influenced the way we have lived is to be in denial to an extreme. <br /><br />Because societies standards for what constitutes success are dysfunctional, many people can be pointed out who "have risen above" their past to be a success. It is those people, who are supposedly successful, that are running the world. How good a job do you think they are doing? <br /><br />It is our world leaders, reacting out of the fear and insecurity of their child within, and the dysfunctional belief systems underlying civilization, who give us war and poverty, billionaires and homelessness. <br /><br />"Work for Peace, understand our Child Within."  It is,  an essential Truth. We will never have world peace, or a civilised society which is based upon respect and dignity - to say nothing of understanding - unless we can heal our relationships with ourselves enough to learn to understand and respect our self. <br /><br />We cannot understand our neighbour as our self, as long as we are judging and comparing our self to them in order to feel good about our self. We cannot have a society that meets the essential emotional and spiritual needs of it's members as long as we are reacting to life in alignment with rules of interaction that we learned in junior school. <br /><br />We are all connected - not separate. We all have worth and deserved to be treated with dignity and respect - instead of earning societies version of worth by stepping on and over our fellow humans, to say nothing of destroying the planet we live on. <br /><br />It is through healing our dysfunctional adult self that we can learn to respect and understand our self so that we can know how to treat others with respect and understanding. It is through understanding our children within that we can evolve into a society that does meet the essential needs of it's members. </span>

This was written sometime ago and presumes that there is some completion to the ten stages.....if we do not complete the ten stages, where we remain in our unconscious state we will not be awakened to our escapist state. our eyes will continue to deceive us. We will misread our truth and our actions will manifest deceit for ourselves and others.  And the more our consciousness is disconnected from our child within the less enlightened we will be. We start to understand that life has no hidden agendas and what we complete in one day may not be what we complete in another.Rather it is the gradual listening to the intuitive voices truth that has been buried inside us that gradually emerges and surfaces within our lives everything is in a state of daily, hourly, seconds of flux.We only have the moment and that has just passed.</span><br />

Do you ever feel like you are running on a treadmill or that you aren't making any progress in recovery because you can't seem to break free from the same old argument?<br />What if there was a reason why you haven't been able to move forward and it's easy to identify?<br />When you are in the blame cycle in any argument, you will continue to have the same old fight.<br />But, you see, blame keeps you stuck. Blame keeps the status quo alive.<br />Could it be that you are holding back living your recovery purpose, finding what makes you truly happy and hiding from your recovery life because you are afraid to end the cycle of blame?<br />You'll be shocked how sneaky the energy of blame is, and how you can fall into this cycle without even knowing it. And when you realise that you are in the blame cycle, you can take your power back.<br />There is a huge difference between recognising there is a behaviour that needs to change and loading up on a big serving of blame pie.<br />Ending the blame cycle in your tense relationships will create more freedom, more love and a deeper sense of purpose in your recovery.<br />And, it will mean that you must start to look at your side and focus on cleaning up your side of the street, taking ownership of your part and creating healthy boundaries.<br />Specifically,ask yourself three questions:<br />1. What is your part in it?<br />2. What healthy boundary are you going to set now?<br />3. Who do you need to forgive (including yourself)?</span></blockquote>

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">Half way through the course after meditations we will start practising using our newly found intuitive voice, intuition may at first seem like learning a new language. You look deeply for answers, question what you get and are fearful of making a mistake. This only serves to bring in the reasoning mind. Instead, don’t strain, fear or worry over the matter — be light and joyful about it.<br /><br />Our intuition is always with us, it’s just a matter of getting familiar with that “still small voice”, that voice that we have heard since childhood, but which we often tune out — or question if its valid — or think its just imagination.<br /><br />When trying to make a decision, our intuition will be our first thought, the thought that sneaks in under the radar, before the rational mind kicks in to analyse (and argue) with it.<br /><br />For example, while traveling over a holiday weekend, my first thought was to take a back road. This country road would be about a 30 mile drive to the connecting main road. Immediately after this first thought, I reasoned that to take another road to the motorway made more sense. The back road traveled through small towns, while the motorway had more lanes,faster speed limits and no traffic lights.<br /><br />The motorway seemed to be the “rational and reasonable” choice. About half way to the motorway, we came upon a major traffic jam on the motorway. We moved at a snail’s pace for nearly an hour. The whole time we were stuck in traffic, I kept thinking about that country road.<br /><br />Other signs of intuitive thought include:<br />Your intuition will suggest the next step – not the whole plan.<br />Your intuitive thought will most likely feel like relief. For example, if you wonder if you should sell your house, how does it feel? Does it feel like relief?<br />Your intuitive thought will be for the benefit of all concerned – it is not competitive, vindictive, hurtful or revengeful.<br />Your intuitive thought will be for your higher good — but it will not tell you how unique and special you are; nor will it put you down.<br />Your intuitive thought will likely be a step out of your comfort zone.<br />Your intuitive thought will likely be an idea you’ve never thought before.<br /><br />Your intuitive thought is that thought that hits you while you are in the shower or driving your car. That thought that comes when you have stopped trying to find the answer.<br /><br />Your intuitive thought is just a knowing, a gut feeling, or a hunch. “I don’t know how I know that – I just know.”<br /><br />To start using and trusting your intuition, start with making small decisions. Minor decisions will lead to major decision making skills as you get a feel for your intuitive voice.<br /><br />And, there is no should. You are the decision maker, so don’t ask: “Should I have pizza for dinner?” “Should I take the new route to work today?”<br /><br />Instead think in the affirmative: “I’ll have pizza for dinner” and see how that feels to you. What </span><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">thought comes up immediately (under the radar) about that decision?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">I let go had a glass of water sat at the computer screen and without thinking turned my chair over and I found a half eaten pack of rice cakes as I lifted them up my wallet came into view and I thanked my intuitive voice for the rest of the day.</span></div>

Labelling is a common tactics used to hurt us or disparage us when we first start to use the language of the ten stages and the child within.
